About Someone else's presentation

It was so nice to listen and watch the presentation of whole classmates. And it was very nice to see whole students each faces. Everyone did really great job. One subject was so popular that was social networking. From the John's presentation, Social Networking: Better or Worse than the Real thing?, it was very interested. Every thing in the world has cons and pros.
Advantages of SNS are that social networking sites have made the  world a smaller place. And SNS also give the notion of unlimited availability where you can literally make new friends and stay connected with others as you sleep.
Disadvantages of SNS are that Privacy and we can become less social-able in real life.
Social networks seems to be the "new" thing now. Businesses are now even using them for promotional usage and it's FREE for them. However, we should be careful to use and pay attention.

The Next New Thing

In Korea, every subway stations has the machines or board that shows when the next train comes (3min later just same like L line in New York). However, in New York has so old system. I know it is very hard to change everything but, we need it so bad because of the mass transportation. I often wait a subway train for a long time in the hectic morning due to delaying trains and miss the trains just as it pulls out of the station. As a result, I propose creating a practical form of new media via cell phone. We can track their local trains and buses via cell phones for time of next train and track. And, we also buy the tickets for bus, subway and LIRR by cell phones. Sometimes, we forget to refill our tickets. It will be easily and convenience. We don’t need to wait to buy the tickets anymore.

Privacy & Confidentiality

After there are a lot of peopel who are using the internet, it has a lot of cons and pro. Above of the pros is the privacy and confidentiality. Privacy and confidentiality is one of the major issues with new media because the technology offers so many benefits and everyone knows that there must be some negativesThe internet place is very dangerous if the user goes into it without proper understanding of the scope of the enviroment. When a person uses the internet, he or she is free to look up almost any information that they are interested in, but in the same regard, they are exposed to all kinds of threats, predators, and viruses. The internet is one of the key components of new media and together they have definitely improved global communication in the past decade. However as new media becomes more apart of society, the amount of private information being put online is exponential. From examples of people losing their jobs because of information they put on Facebook to news articles of online predators, identity theft, and viruses, many people are wondering how safe it is to go online. New media has its pros and cons and every user wants the freedom to use the technology, but know that they are not at risk.

About my presentation

My term paper is on the Future of Old Media. With the new media craze, I was curious to see what was in store for old media such as newspapers, magazines and television. Using websites and books, I searched for articles and papers on the topic.
 I didn’t find a lot of research papers examining old media and its future that would be helpful to me. However,I did find some examples of future of old media such as Apps Television, touch magazines, and IN Nespaper.
 I thought this was very useful and interesting because I would think that new media would be the same ways and it will help to survive. When new media became increasingly popular, they weren’t prepared; so they devised defensive strategies, in fear of getting replaced.
I also did research just by using Google to search for articles on old media. I found survey statistics that show a decline in the old format’s use and increase in internet and new media use.

Advice to Baruch College

When I was a college student in Korea, there were a lot of online classes. There were a lot of advantages for the enable students who had lack of time to attend classes in their busy schedules to learn at their own time such as full-time workers. I do not mean only blogs and wikis to contribute. There were their own systems like online lecture with video. We could take some quizzes and even exam (but there was certain time for exam like one day). Online classes give flexibility. A student can usually take the course any time during the day or week. While there are custom essay writing and researching assignments to complete, the precise time to take the class often depends on the student's desire. Students who work are able to take the class based on their schedules. Many students work on their course during the middle of the night or early in the morning. The flexibility of the course makes it possible for a person to complete the course, while attending college courses in person might be impossible due to their work schedules. Also, online class, students often offer accelerated courses, and last but not least is the fact that they are convenient for the student.
 So,I hope we have a online classes in Baruch

In Daily transit, I have added  to see how some of works we can visit the LIRR page. (there was MTA page also.) And additionaly, I writed about the situation that if the lost of the metrocard. Usually, It cannot be replaced. However, 14-Day and 30-Day Unlimited Ride MetroCard and the 7-Day Express Bus MetroCard provide balance protection if purchased with a credit card or debit/atm card. So, it is better to buy the card with a credit card or debit/atm card than cash.
In airline industry, I have added discount things when we order the ticket online. For instance, in jetblue website, they shows featured webfare. (http://www.jetblue.com/) Additionally, they send an e-mail for promotion fare whenever they have.

My New Media Class - So Far

So far my New Media class, I am learning a lot of things about new technologies in the assignment every week. There are bunch of things that i learned such as twitter, wiki, blog, contribution, and so on. And I did not consider a lot about New media but I can distinguish between old and new media. The internet is definitely a major componet in a lot of the new media. Most of the new media is also made up of making things easier or more convenient for everyone, which is another reason old media is being replaced.

New media needs techology in order to exist. New media by people to connect with other people in a faster, more effieient way. The world is constantly changing and evolving. whether this is a good thing or bad thing. It is up to us so we should decide carefully.

Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

A virtual world is a genre of online community that often takes the form of a computer-based simulated enviroment. The use of media become nerver ending to survive in the cyber space. New media techonology has become indispensable to transact business with a more global approach, for fast and reliable communication. Virtual worlds allow players to create their own avartars that best suit their looks or their idea looks. Then the players use their avatars to interact with the world and other avatars, much like what we do in real life. People can do anything what they want in their second life in cyber space contrast they can not do in real world. They can have fun, hang out and chat about anything etc.

However, there is some distinct features of virtual world. It can be used dangerous way if we missed. It can commit crimes. For instance, in mmorpg's players have to play by the game's rules, and they sell this with a lot of money indicating in the economy like real society. I believe that is the dark side of virtual world.

Twitter Discussion.

I usually use the Facebook whenever i have some thing to talk to my friends and people but thesedays i often check twitter when some issues comes up. Two days ago, I heard that iphone is coming with Verizon on the end of June. I wondered it is rumer or something. I wanted to check but I have no idea where i could check. Suddenly Twitter came up my head. I checked Twitter and that was some issue in there. It is easy to check what is going on in the Twitter, Love it!

Comparing the Black Board, we should wait when people answer. While by Twitter, we could check right away if there are people who i want to get an answer. it is eariser than Black Board. However,  there is limited that we write only less than 140 character.

Compareing the class, some people are so shy to talk to many people like me. However, in the online talk we do not need to care about people (not in person) That is sort of advantage.

Social Networking

Thesedays social network sites are so popular and huge. A lot of people use social network sites everyday such as Facebook, Twitter, Myspace and so on. In my case I use Facebook, comparing the other social site, I am get use to it so it is easy to access and useful to meet mew people or build up relationships with people whom might be reliable in the future. Also with people who are very shy in person, these sites may help boost their self esteem in regards to communicating with others. These sites also allowed the user to post up pictures in which their friends could comment or post other things similar to theirs. Some people like this things like open their picture to the other people while, some people thinks it is too open and could disrupt private things to the people who I do not know. And these kind of sites are so easily obsessed. In this below example of one girl. Bonnie Smalley is crazy of the twitter comment. She has been blocked by Twitter for hand-typing too many tweets in an hour and she reads at least 400 customer tweets on a slow day at her desk. It is help to gather people ideas. However, I thinks it is kind of being obsessed. We have to distinguish that what is good and bad.

Social Networking Sites

I have been using the social networking site for nine years in korea. In Korea, there are a lot of social networking sites such as Cyworld, Ohmylove, Damoim, I love school and so on.
Those sites are exactly the same like Facebook and Myspace.
Most of all those example, Cyworld is the most popular social networking site in Korea.
A social network service focuses on buliding online communities of people who share interests and activities, or who are interested in exploring the interests and activities of others.
Through out those social networling sites, we could upload pictures, videos etc, view of my friends profiles, communicate with each other by writing in each others scrapbooks. we could also become a fan of somebody and give them ratings on how 'trusty' or 'cool' they are.
Similar like Facebook, Myspace is also popular social networking sites offering an interactive, user-submitted network of friends, personal profiles, blogs, groups, photos, music for teenagers and adults internationally.
It has the broadest appeal arossing age rages, Facebook.com has created a niche among the colleg crowd, Friendster. com attracts a higher percentage of adults.

My project

I am going to present "The Future of Old Media" for my project.
I will present that :What is the old media, What is different with New Media, How old media is using our society, what is old media going to do.. and so on.
I will use a lot of sourses such as newspaper, book, internet and so on.

Blog vs wiki

A Blog is usually maintained by individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as video or pictual. A blog allows a person to post daily life and their schedual and it can be shown to everybody who accesses it. Also, anyone can post it and can read it.

A wiki is a webpages so, anyone who accesses it contribute or modify content. It is kind of (similar an encyclopedia.) You can have information some topic that i want to find, know, or learn. However anyone can post information on a wiki who is not professional that is the reason why wki does inaccuracies. Sometimes, wiki shows wrong information.

Both blog and wiki are very important to New media. We can check and know a lot of information at a faster speed. It gives us convenient.

Old media VS New media

The old media is traditional means of communicaiton and expression that have existed since before the advent of new media of the internet such as cable televison, radio, movie and newspaper and so on. Many of those industries are now less profitable than they used to be and this is has been attributed to the growth of the new media.

While, the new media is a term meant to encompass the emergence of digital, newworked informaition technologies such as computer games, DVDs and internet magagins...

And I think that New media is anything that is very handy and accesible.

What is new media?

New media tyically includes any informational media distributed via computer, internet, websites, computer games, etc.
New media is not television programs, feature films, books. New media is concerned more with cultural objects and paradigms. What a lot of younger people today may not be aware of, is there were places for electronic trasfer of information before the internet became common place.
The rise of new media has increased communication between people all over the world and the internet. It has allowed people to express themselves through blogs, websites.
The difference between Old Media and New Media is that news papers and magazines are all turned paperless, We can now go onto the internet and we are able to read from there. We can now watch movies and shows we may miss over the internet as well.
Basically New Media is about making things a little bit more comfortable for those who are seekers of information and entertainment.
